About the Role
We’re seeking a passionate Community Organizer & Outreach Coordinator to help build a movement for home energy action across Addison County and surrounding regions. This is a full-time position for someone who thrives in local communities and online—listening, building trust, identifying natural leaders, and turning interest into sustained action.
You’ll represent a growing community-based energy coaching program, and your job is to connect with local champions—whether they’re town energy committees, librarians, food shelf staff, or neighborhood connectors—and support them in spreading the word and helping neighbors access free, personalized energy guidance. This position blends grassroots organizing, strategic outreach, and creative communication. It requires strong digital communications skills and the ability to plan, execute, and measure the impact of outreach campaigns—especially on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Additional duties include some administration work and conducting one-on-one Energy Navigations with residents when needed (training provided).
Key Responsibilities:
👥 Community Organizing & Outreach (40%)
Build relationships with trusted local leaders, partner organizations, and town energy committees
Cultivate “community champions” to serve as connectors and amplifiers of our energy coaching work
Organize and lead outreach events—workshops, presentations, tabling at fairs, library talks, etc.
Develop organizing strategies tailored to specific towns, populations, or interest groups
Represent the program in community spaces and respond to local needs and opportunities
📰 Communications & Local Messaging (40%)
Create town-specific outreach materials that resonate with local culture and needs
Write and manage social media content, Front Porch Forum posts, press releases, and flyers
Design accessible materials using Canva or similar tools—postcards, handouts, posters
Collaborate with internal teams to shape messaging strategies and share community stories
Ensure communications reflect the voices and values of the communities we serve
Develop and execute digital outreach campaigns using platforms like Facebook and Instagram
Use tools such as Meta Business Suite to schedule posts, target key audiences, and monitor reach
Track and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts using analytics and adjust tactics accordingly
Design simple paid ad campaigns and test messaging performance based on engagement and conversion
🏡 Administrative Work for Navigations (10%)
Manage client intake and scheduling
Connect Energy Coaches with new clients
🏡 Energy Coaching Support (as needed, ~10%)
Training provided; this is a supportive role, not the core of the position.
Occasionally conduct one-on-one Energy Navigations (in-home) for local residents
Write simple follow-up summaries with energy-saving steps and resources
Connect residents to programs, rebates, and trusted contractors
Provide light mentoring support to our team of volunteer Navigators when needed
You’re a Great Fit If You:
Are a natural relationship-builder who listens well and builds trust across backgrounds
Are energized by connecting with people, attending events, and learning what makes a town tick
Are a strong communicator—in person, on paper, and online
Have experience creating and managing outreach campaigns both online and in-person
Are fluent in social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram, and enjoy using it to drive engagement and participation
Are comfortable reviewing basic performance metrics and using data to improve outreach strategies
Have an interest in energy justice, affordability, and helping neighbors take climate action
Are familiar with community organizing principles and love cultivating local leadership
Are comfortable with basic design and communications tools (we’ll train you as needed)
Have the ability to travel around Addison County regularly (mileage reimbursed)
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
Experience in grassroots or nonprofit organizing
Familiarity with Meta Business Suite, social media analytics, or email campaign tools
Experience with outreach tracking platforms like Monday.com
Knowledge of Vermont energy programs (Efficiency Vermont, HEAT Squad, etc.)
Familiarity with rural Vermont networks (Front Porch Forum, food shelves, housing services)
Experience mentoring volunteers or managing local campaigns
What We Offer:
Flexible, hybrid schedule with field-based community work
Paid time off, health benefits subsidy, and a 3% retirement match
Professional development and training in energy coaching and organizing
